Brad Ableson Camazepam For Sale, , 28, was hired by Film Roman to be a character layout artist on "The Simpsons" when he was 19. After working full time and simultaneously attending film school at USC's School of Cinema-Television, he was promoted to storyboard artist, where he has been plugging away ever since. After hours, Brad has continued to keep himself busy with an ambitious pet project called "Save Virgil," a short film that combines live-action and animation in the spirit of "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" and "Space Jam." Though only 15 minutes long, Online Camazepam without a prescription, it has been a grueling process that has cost him four surgical operations, three visits to foreign countries, two years of his life, and a partridge in a pear tree. Here is Brad's account of his roller-coaster ride, which we're calling...
"Animation Insanity - An INDIE filmmakers quest for expression"
It all started with a simple brain fart. "What if a real-life baby was born with the hideous birth defect of being a cartoon?" It seemed like such an obvious premise, yet it hadn't been done before, purchase Camazepam. Every other film that combined live-action and animation, like Roger Rabbit, Cool World, and Space Jam, treated the "toons" as another species coexisting with humans, Camazepam For Sale. What if a cartoon was born that WAS human. He would be considered a freak of nature, literally. What a tragic and hilarious character. I had to make a film about this "cartoon-boy." And thus began the hell that is my life. Camazepam For Sale, I flirted with the idea for years, but it wasn't until I was in film school that the "cartoon-boy" story came together. I came up with the basic storyline in a screenwriting class, Generic Camazepam, but I couldn't get a grasp on his personality. Then I discovered "Mr. Birchum," a hilarious radio character created by Adam Carolla for the Kevin & Bean morning show on KROQ. He was a gruff Vietnam-Vet/woodshop teacher who was constantly ranting about being beaten down by the world. Every time I heard Mr, Camazepam For Sale. Birchum I thought "what a great voice for a cartoon character." Then it occurred to me; Mr. Birchum IS cartoon-boy. Suddenly, Camazepam over the counter, with Mr. Birchum's attitude in mind, cartoon-boy became Virgil, (named after a street in Hollywood, as well sounding like "Viking," a running theme throughout the film.) With a 15 page script and a couple of credit cards, Buy Camazepam online cod, I decided to stop talking about making this film and just do it.
The first step was figuring out how to combine live-action with animation. Camazepam For Sale, I went to Kellie-Bea Cooper, an animation producer friend, and asked her where to start. She suggested putting together a panel of the technical wizards behind "Space Jam" and "Roger Rabbit," and grilling them in front of an audience. This wasn't the advice I was looking for, but in the end we not only got answers to all my questions, but I was able to establish relationships with the legendary Jane Bear, Ed Jones, and Bruce Smith, Camazepam forum, who, to this day, I am able to phone up for advice. After meeting these people, one thing became clear. Making a fully digital film was the way to go. Next I needed to put together a live-action crew, Camazepam For Sale. Camazepam online cod, Fortunately, some friends of mine from film school had a production company called "Quality Filmed Entertainment," known for producing short films like "George Lucas in Love." They were interested in expanding their resume to include an FX heavy short, but insisted that we shoot on 35mm film, as opposed to digital video. This would mean tripling the budget, but this was the first of many sacrifices I would have to make if I wanted help.
At this point I should explain a medical condition I had developed back in film school called "ulcerative colitis" Basically, it's an ulcer in your colon that flares up during times of stress and causes excruciating internal bleeding and frequent trips to the bathroom, herbal Camazepam. Since graduation I had managed to keep it under control, but the stress of our looming production was causing my ulcer to come back. In order to shoot on 35mm film, I would need to raise more money. Camazepam For Sale, I was temped to accept investments, but using other people's money made me nervous. If I succeeded, I would have to share the rights to my character and all future profits. Camazepam canada, mexico, india, If I failed, I'd be throwing somebody's money away. By paying for everything myself, I answered to nobody. I decided to put together a brochure asking for "donations" and sent it to everybody I knew. I asked for no less than $100 and no more than $200, Camazepam For Sale. In return, I promised a "Save Virgil" T-shirt, screen credit, Camazepam australia, uk, us, usa, copy of the film, and an original animation cell. It was presumptuous to assume anyone would hand me a dime, but I made about $5,000!
Next, I needed to cast a voice actor. Camazepam steet value, I had always imagined Adam Carolla as the voice of Virgil, but it never occurred to me that he would actually do it. As it turned out, Carolyn Omine, a writer from "The Simpsons," is a close personal friend of Adam's and she talked him into doing it. Camazepam For Sale, This was the moment I realized that "Save Virgil" was really happening. Once Adam Carolla was attached, everything really started happening, Camazepam no rx. We put together a cast (including Gary Coleman and legendary porn star Ginger Lynne), crew, storyboards, and production schedule and prepared for our 8-day shoot. Before we could begin filming, we had to record Adam Carolla's voice over. After Camazepam, I explained the story to him over the phone and he told me to show up at the studio where he records "Love-Line," at 9PM, an hour before he goes on the air. This didn't seem like enough time, but I had to take what I could get, Camazepam For Sale. At 9:15, the night of the record, he still hadn't arrived and my ulcer began to flare up. Finally he showed up and we raced through the dialog. He was so funny that I ruined some of the takes by laughing out loud, Camazepam recreational. And not only did he finish with 10 minutes to spare, but he contributed some adlib jokes that are the funniest lines in the film.
Camazepam For Sale, The experience of hearing my words come to life through Adam's performance was magical. Then, 2 days before our first day of shooting, my producers informed me that we needed three times the amount of money I had wrangled to even begin shooting. I became sick to my stomach. Online buy Camazepam without a prescription, I had worked so hard to pay for everything myself, but with 48 hours before our first shot, I had no choice to accept an investor. My producers frantically set up a meeting with a wealthy Internet mogul and after a song and dance about how great "Save Virgil" would be he wrote us the check that would save Virgil. I went to bed that night feeling victorious, but woke up to a dreadful phone call, Camazepam For Sale. Overnight, the guy had changed his mind and asked for his money back. Suddenly I had 24 hours to come up with the money. I had no more investors to call up, Camazepam dangers, no rich relatives, no savings, and no more credit. At that point I had no choice but make some pride swallowing phone-calls to friends and beg for money. Camazepam For Sale, It was the hardest thing I've ever done, but at least I didn't have to sell my body for money.yet.
Shooting the live-action was, without a doubt, the most exciting, yet physically exhausting experience of my life. Our first day was one of the more complicated setups: Virgil in Kindergarten. Working with kids is never easy, Buy cheap Camazepam no rx, not to mention asking them to interact with a character that isn't even there. When I showed up on set I couldn't believe how many trucks, people, and equipment there was. As I introduced myself to all the grips and electricians I realized this was no student film set. This was the real deal, Camazepam For Sale. What did these people think of me. It all came down to the first shot. How I handled myself would set the tone for the entire shoot, no prescription Camazepam online. All eyes were on me as I called "action!" Suddenly everyone started laughing. Camazepam For Sale, My producers quietly explained to me that the camera needs to be rolling before the director can call action. I felt like a complete moron. When we finally got the first shot off everybody applauded. My producers pulled up a director chair and told me to sit down and relax. "How could I sit down," I asked, Camazepam without a prescription, "while all these people are working for me?" "Because you're paying for this chair," they explained. I felt sick to my stomach as I took a seat in my expensive chair.
Things got better from there, Camazepam For Sale. I quickly learned that the key to directing live-action is communication. In animation you have the luxury of doing everything yourself. You have control over the acting, timing, costumes, sets, Camazepam dose, lighting, composition, etc. Locations, props, and effects cost nothing. Camazepam For Sale, It's the perfect medium for an anti-social control freak. Camazepam results, In live-action you have to explain to other people what you want, trust them to see it through, in unison, on budget, and in a ridiculously short amount of time. Having been an animator for so long, it was hard to surrender the power to do everything myself. Instead, Camazepam class, I learned that by providing clear storyboards and articulate instructions to my cast and crew, I could get nearly everything I wanted. The other thing I learned was the importance of sleep. Without sleep, it's impossible to make decisions on set and communicate clearly, Camazepam For Sale. Over the course of those 8 days I pulled three all-nighters, and maybe slept a few hours the other nights because I was busy building sets and creating shot lists. Had I finished these things earlier, Camazepam maximum dosage, I wouldn't have become the zombie that I was by the last day. When the shoot was over, I was physically and financially exhausted. For weeks I couldn't sleep more than an hour without waking up in a panic, thinking I had overslept on a shooting day. Camazepam For Sale, And my ulcer had gotten so bad that I was put on heavy medication (steroids) to keep from internally bleeding to death. We had wrapped on a Sunday and I went back to work on "The Simpsons" Monday morning in order to pay back my debts as quickly as possible. I begged for any freelance jobs and overtime I could get. It would be six months before I could even begin the editing process because I had become so sick and had so many people to pay back.
Post-production has been a three-phase process, rx free Camazepam. Editing, then animating, then compositing. Editing "Save Virgil" was a lot of fun, Camazepam For Sale. A friend of mine from film-school would come to Film Roman after hours and we would cut together the footage on an Avid. Since our main character did not yet exist on screen, I sketched sharpie drawings of Virgil and scanned them into the ruff cut, Doses Camazepam work, or "animatic," as it became known. Next came the character layout phase. I recruited some of my friends from "The Simpsons" to animate, then divided up the scenes among us. Camazepam For Sale, I provided them each with models, storyboards, the animatic, voice-track, and "photo-rotos," which are live-action stills printed frame by frame on animation paper. I assumed these professional animators would have no problem drawing Virgil, but most of these guys had never animated anything but "The Simpsons." Thus, they had a hard time adapting to my drawing style, taking Camazepam. It didn't help that I was so picky, was in a big hurry, and wasn't paying them. Ultimately I would end up animating 80% of the film myself. It was a good lesson in working with other artists. Much like in live-action, I learned the importance of communication, Camazepam For Sale. Had I spent more time explaining how to draw Virgil and what I wanted, Camazepam reviews, I probably wouldn't have had to redraw everything myself.
Next came timing the animation. Again, I was presumptuous to assume that my friends from "The Simpsons" would be at my beck and call and be able to read my mind as to what I wanted. In the end, I had to learn how to time the animation myself, which was really frustrating at first, but ultimately an invaluable lesson. As I finished timing each scene, Camazepam samples, I shipped the drawings to Korea, where I had arranged with a small company to do all the inbetweening, cleanup, and digital ink & paint for peanuts. Camazepam For Sale, Well, you get what you pay for. As they shipped finished scenes back to me, it became clear that they had NO idea what they were doing. Camazepam pharmacy, I tried and tried to explain what I wanted, but without being there in person, it was impossible to communicate with them. With no other choice, I packed my bags and flew to Korea. For years I had heard rumors of Korean sweat-shops packed shoulder to shoulder with animators slaving away around the clock in horrible working conditions. As it turns out, the overseas studio where "The Simpsons" is animated was quite the opposite, Camazepam For Sale. It was a beautiful, spacious studio filled with cheerful artists, my Camazepam experience. However, the studio where "Save Virgil" was being animated was EXACLTY like the stereotype. In fact it wasn't even a studio. It was a house where the animators slaved away in the basement, or "the dungeon" as I called it. Camazepam For Sale, Suddenly it was clear why their work sucked. The first time I went into the dungeon to meet the animators they cowered in fear as if I was going to beat them. Camazepam from canadian pharmacy, They couldn't fathom that I was interested in knowing their names and working directly with them. Eventually we all became friends and they would say "kumsa hamnida" when I entered the dungeon, which means "I love you." I think they admired the fact that I took enough interest in the project to not only come to Korea, but to work along side them and sleep under my desk with them. The truth is, I wasn't trying to be a martyr. I couldn't afford to sleep anywhere else, Camazepam For Sale. Ultimately, my experience in Korea was a disaster, Camazepam interactions. They accomplished none of the work they had promised during the five weeks I was there, and my ulcer had progressed to a point where my medication wasn't helping at all. I was in constant pain. To be that sick in a foreign country, living in those conditions was truly miserable.
The day I returned from Korea I was hospitalized and had seven feet of my colon removed over the course of three operations. Camazepam For Sale, The twisted thing is that I thoroughly enjoyed my time in the hospital. I had a warm place to sleep and no obligation draw Virgils. Camazepam trusted pharmacy reviews, When I got out of the hospital, I returned to "The Simpsons" once again to get out of debt and wait for the Koreans to finish the animation. During that time, I wrote a rap song with Young MC (known for "Bust A Move"), which we recorded with Adam Carolla for the end credits. Also, I decided it might be fun to animate a short hallucination sequence from the film in clay. That was the biggest mistake I ever made, Camazepam For Sale. A friend of mine who works at the Will Vinton Studios (known for "The California Raisins" and "The PJ's" agreed to help me put the sequence together, cheap Camazepam no rx, but it meant coming to Portland for the duration of the shoot. I figured that animating 15 seconds of claymation couldn't take very long. Boy was I wrong. I won't go into the details of what went wrong, but let's just say that with better planning and a little money, it would have gotten done in a week. Camazepam For Sale, Instead I spent five weeks in Portland (again, sleeping at the studio) and came home with nothing. Camazepam treatment, I'd have stayed until we finished, but suddenly I had a more important crisis to worry about. The compositing. Back when this whole thing started, I had made arrangements with my best friend from high school, who worked at Digital Domain as a digital effects artist on films like "Titanic," "Fight Club" and "The Grinch," to help me with the compositing of the animated Virgils into the live-action world. This was an extremely expensive process that I was going to get done for free. Everything was in place to begin, when suddenly I got a phone call from my buddy saying "I got hired to work on 'Lord of the Rings II and III." This was great news, I thought, until he informed me that it meant he had to move to New Zealand for two years, Camazepam For Sale. Even though my ulcerated colon had long since been removed, I felt like I was going to vomit up my remaining intestines. Could anything else go wrong. At this point, we agreed that the only way the compositing would get done would be for me to come to New Zealand with my buddy. I can think of worse places to be forced to go, but, again, without money and a time-off from work, this was a MAJOR inconvenience. Camazepam For Sale, I made arrangements with "The Simpsons" to take a temporary leave of absence, and I packed my bags for Wellington, NZ, where I am writing from at this very moment. Lord knows how long it's going to take to finish "Save Virgil." I still have the rest of the compositing, sound, music, and final editing to worry about. But one thing I do know is that as hellish as this experience has been, I wouldn't take it back for anything. Even if the finished product sucks, I have made many talented and generous friends and learned so much.
WHAT HAVE I LEARNED?
What have I learned, you ask. Well, for one thing, I learned that if you want something done right, you need to do it yourself. I've learned the "rule of three." In independent filmmaking, everything takes three times as much money, three times as long, and three times as many people as you originally estimated, Camazepam For Sale. I've learned that it's impossible to make a CHEAP, FAST, and GOOD film. You have to sacrifice one to get the others. In my case, I gave up FAST in order to have a CHEAP, GOOD film.
Finally, I've learned that no matter how bad you want to succeed, it's not worth neglecting your health. I'm lucky I didn't die making this film. Fortunately I was given a second chance. That, and a huge penis. Never underestimate the power of sleeping your way to the top!.
